Press roomKrka opens new chemical development laboratoriesNovo mesto, 3 October 2008 - Today, Krka opened new chemical development laboratories, worth EUR 8.5 million. This new acquisition combines the knowledge from the field of synthesis with the knowledge of chemical analyses, required for the development of products from the phase of the theoretical study of chemical synthesis to the transfer of the newly developed technology to the industrial scale. On this occasion, Krka in co-operation with the Municipality of Novo mesto symbolically opened Andrijanič Road, the road running along the company's premises and named after Krka's founder, Mr Boris Andrijanič. They also unveiled a sculpture on the roundabout in the immediate vicinity of Krka. New chemical development laboratoriesWith this new laboratory infrastructure Krka optimised its development capacities and, at the same time, by involving top-skilled personnel and using state-of-the-art development equipment provided opportunities for the development of the technically most demanding projects. In these laboratories, the complete development of synthesis, isolation and physical processing of active pharmaceutical ingredients, further used in the development of pharmaceutical finished products, will take place. Such concentrating the facilities in one place, which enables more efficient use of the equipment and materials, ensures optimum utilisation of the development infrastructure and thus better efficiency of the chemical development. Experiments in sizes ranging from a few milligrams to several kilograms will be conducted there. In the development processes they will develop knowledge in the field of chemistry. They will provide the most appropriate level of development data for the purpose of intellectual property protection by patent applications, product registration documents for active pharmaceutical ingredients used in finished products, and the technological procedure for the synthesis and isolation of active ingredients, including all process-related analytical methods to be used in chemical production. Andrijanič Road and the sculpture on the roundaboutOn this occasion, Krka in co-operation with the Municipality of Novo mesto symbolically opened Andrijanič Road, the road bearing the name of the founder of Krka, Mr Boris Andrijanič. At Krka they are aware that Mr Andrijanič with his enthusiasm and eagerness to work and with the support of a handful of colleagues founded a factory that has grown into an international pharmaceutical company. They are therefore proud that the road running along the company's premises has been named after him. Today, they also unveiled the sculpture created by Jože Kotar, for which the funds were provided by Krka. It has been erected on the green area of the roundabout in the immediate vicinity of the company. Between the two halves of a sphere an element in the shape of a tablet is placed. Figuratively, the tablet has been giving "daily bread" to the inhabitants of Novo mesto for decades and also makes Novo mesto recognisable worldwide. |
