Krka’s volunteers once again united by charity

7 min. read

During the 10th Krka’s Week of Charity and Volunteering and under the slogan Charity is also a part of us, we shared the values of volunteering, interpersonal assistance and intergenerational cooperation. Charity activities took place all over Slovenia, and the campaign was joined by Krka employees in 18 countries. This year, we again spent time with the elderly in retirement homes, and the wards and pupils of occupational activity centres, schools for children with special needs, and other institutions. We rounded off the week with a Doors Open Day at Krka’s central location in Novo mesto, where we hosted almost 1,800 members of the Slovenian Diabetes Association.

Many Krka employees recognise their mission in charity and volunteering, both within the company and through their own initiatives, not only during Krka’s Week of Charity and Volunteering, but throughout the entire year. In this way, we have been strengthening our social responsibility and humanitarian actions for more than seven decades. We are delighted by the growing response to our charity campaign, which has been spreading the values of volunteering since 2012.

Countless stories that touch your heart

Over the course of ten years, over 10,000 Krka employees acted as volunteers in our campaign. This year, once again, Krka’s Week of Charity and Volunteering offered abundant opportunities for acts of charity. During this week, nearly 1,000 volunteers came together in a collective effort. We are particularly pleased that more younger colleagues are joining us every year. This year, for the first time, over 100 of them actively participated in the campaign alongside a growing number of volunteers from our subsidiaries and representative offices in other countries. Charitable activities were organised in 18 countries: in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Finland, the Russian Federation, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Germany, Spain, Kyrgyzstan, as well as in Mongolia and India.

We helped many lonely people and those in need. We collected clothes, school and personal hygiene items, as well as other necessities for adults and children, offered our assistance at the Red Cross and Karitas organisations, donated blood, helped the elderly in retirement homes, spent time with the wards of various institutions, collected food for animals, and helped at pet shelters.

We accompanied residents of retirement homes on walks, worked with them in the garden, helped them with memory training activities, exercised with them, and organised creative workshops for them. In addition, we prepared a diverse programme for the wards and pupils of occupational activity centres, primary schools for children with special needs, and other institutions across Slovenia. We organised sports games, accompanied them to movie screenings, and spent time with them at the Terme Krka swimming pool. We also organised dance and creative workshops for them, offering them the opportunity to engage in expressive and artistic activities. Krka volunteers demonstrated their skills, including beekeeping and pottery. Over the course of the week, the Association for Developing Voluntary Work in Novo mesto offered learning assistance to children and organised a first aid course.

Once again, Krka volunteers stepped forward and donated their blood. This year, a total of nearly 62 litres of this vital life fluid were collected in Ljubljana, Novo mesto, Krško, and Ljutomer. Donating blood remains an important part of Krka’s tradition.

Throughout the week, we collected clothes, personal hygiene items and other necessities at different locations – Novo mesto, Ljubljana, Ljutomer, Šentjernej, Krško, and Terme Krka. By the end of the week, we collected 2.5 tonnes. We assisted in organising and preparing the clothes collected at the Red Cross and Karitas organisations, and helped prepare food packages and sort personal hygiene items. We prepared 1,395 food packages. In collaboration with both organisations, we extended our assistance to home-bound individuals.

Every year, we do something good for abandoned animals. This year, we collected 460 kg of food for cats and dogs in pet shelters. We also did some landscaping at the Gmajnica pet shelter in Ljubljana and Mala hiša pet shelter in Murska Sobota.

We rounded off the week with a Doors Open Day at Krka’s central location in Novo mesto, where we hosted almost 1,800 members of the Slovenian Diabetes Association. They were taken on a tour of our state-of-the-art solid dosage form production plant Notol 2. The visitors were addressed by the President of the Management Board and CEO Jože Colarič, member of the Management Board and Director of Pharmaceutical R&D and Production Aleš Rotar, PhD, and member of the Management Board David Bratož. We organised informative lectures for our guests, providing them with ample health-related advice, and conducted measurements of their blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels.

The motto of this year’s Krka’s Week of Charity and Volunteering I love being a Krka volunteer embodies our willingness to help wherever and however we can. Over the last ten years, many Krka employees have created stronger connections through our participation in charitable activities. Different generations of Krka employees weave intangible bonds that form the foundation of solidarity and foster positive interpersonal relationships.
