Our Earth, our future

1 min. read

World Environment Day, led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since 1973, is the largest international celebration dedicated to the environment. This year’s focus is on finding solutions for land restoration, desertification and drought resilience. The campaign, under the slogan ‘Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.’ emphasizes the importance of restoring degraded lands to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change and the significance of sustainable development. Sustainable development is one of Krka’s core principles.

We can only consider ourselves successful when our success has a positive impact on the environment and the community. We are committed to continually reducing our environmental footprint and effectively managing natural resources and energy. In this way we ensure a healthy living environment for our employees, the broader community, and future generations. Over the past five years, we have invested over €50 million in environmental protection, of that €10.9 million in 2023 alone. Direct costs amounted to €8.1 million and included costs of waste water discharge and treatment, waste management, waste air treatment, noise reduction, monitoring costs, environmental levies, and other direct costs of environmental protection. We invested €2.8 million in equipment and technology for environmental protection, which will contribute to further reducing our environmental impact. Currently, Krka’s largest environmental project is the construction of our own biological wastewater treatment plant in Krško, scheduled to be operational by June 2025.
