4625 green kilometres racked up during Krka’s Mobility Week

4 min. read

Krka joined European Mobility Week for the eleventh time. Once again, we encouraged employees to choose more sustainable ways of getting to work while embracing a more active lifestyle. Building on the success of last year’s initiative, employees racked up green kilometres throughout the week by walking, cycling, using public transport or choosing other environmentally friendly ways to travel to and from work.

Together for a smaller environmental footprint

In Slovenia, 131 employees across 15 teams took part in the initiative. Together, we covered 4625 green kilometres, saving 671 kg of CO₂, equivalent to the impact of 31 trees. Our colleagues in 14 other countries where the Krka Group operates also joined our sustainable mobility campaign. Their participation once again showed that environmental responsibility and sustainability principles are put into practice across the entire Group.

Every kilometre travelled to or from work on foot, by bicycle, scooter or public transport counted as a green kilometre. To provide some extra motivation, we also converted the kilometres into points.  Each kilometre walked earned five points, each kilometre travelled by bicycle or scooter earned three points, and each kilometre by public transport was worth one point. While the collective achievements of everyone involved remained the main focus, we also presented symbolic awards to the team with the highest average number of points per member and the team that racked up the most green kilometres.

“Through a range of initiatives, we are working to make sustainable mobility part of our employees’ everyday habits. We are delighted to see so many colleagues taking part year after year and showing by example that even small changes can make a meaningful contribution to reducing our environmental impact, improving health and enhancing the quality of life. But the greatest value of Krka’s Mobility Week lies not only in the green kilometres we racked up, but in the people behind them. Once again, our employees showed tremendous energy, team spirit and environmental responsibility, demonstrating that sustainable mobility can be beneficial, healthy and enjoyable at the same time,” said Simon E. Pantar, Head of the Sustainable Mobility Promotion Team and Director of Technical Supply.

Sustainable mobility as a part of who we are

Sustainable mobility is an important part of Krka’s efforts to protect the environment and encourage healthy everyday habits among employees. Through our sustainable mobility team, we organise a range of activities for employees while continuing to improve the infrastructure for more environmentally friendly forms of transport. Employees have access to dedicated bicycle parking facilities, we encourage carpooling, and this year we installed additional electric vehicle charging stations at our production facilities.

The success of our employees’ commitment to sustainable mobility has also been recognised at the national level. In the spring round of the cycling-to-work challenge, we ranked first among participating employers. The achievement demonstrates that sustainable mobility at Krka is not limited to individual campaigns but has become an important part of our organisational culture.

This year’s Krka Mobility Week was accompanied by several extra activities.  Even before the initiative began, we organised two cycling trips, one road cycling and one mountain biking, encouraging employees to spend their free time actively and get ready to start collecting green kilometres. During the campaign, Krka restaurants also offered protein-rich meals to support an active lifestyle.

Sustainable travel was made even easier by free access to Novo Mesto city buses through the Sitium system, giving employees another convenient reason to choose public transport. The week’s sporting activities also included Krka’s cycling time trial, where colleagues put themselves to the test against the clock.

At Krka, we believe that small steps can lead to big changes. By promoting sustainable mobility, we reduce our environmental impact, encourage healthier lifestyles among employees and strengthen a culture of responsible behaviour. This commitment is also reflected in our Sports-Friendly Company Certificate, which recognises our long-standing efforts to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles among employees.
